intermediate team
INTERMEDIATE is the pre-teen team of our competitive program, welcoming dancers aged 11 and over (entering grade 6). The Intermediate team requires a commitment level of two nights per week, though optional classes mean that many Intermediate students dance on Saturdays as well.
Dancers are promoted from our Junior program or are selected from our recreational program by our teaching staff because they have demonstrated the technical proficiency, performance skills, and work habits necessary for success at the intermediate level.
Our intermediate dancers represent Studio C at competition with tap, jazz, and lyrical group routines. They also participate in our production number. After completing a minimum of one full competitive season, intermediates are eligible to add a competitive solo, and/or duet/trio routine.
Intermediate dancers train using the CDTA syllabus at the Grade 2 level and are expected to pass both their Grade 2 Jazz and Grade 2 Tap exam.
Additional classes in Ballet and Acro are optional but recommended at this level. Many of our competitive dancers choose to add one or both to their schedule, to help increase strength, flexibility and the technical facility necessary for advanced skills and tricks. Intermediates do not compete Ballet or Acro routines, but they are performed in our end of year recital.

** Placement after Intermediate depends more heavily on the successful acquisition of certain technical skills, including flexibility, extension, strength, rhythm, performance quality, and the ability to learn and retain choreography. Number of studio hours, including optional classes, are also a major factor. Most students will move to the Teen program for the duration of their competition career, while others will spend only a year or two at the Teen level before moving to Senior Elite.
