Cathryn Matthews
Senior Instructor
Cathryn has been part of Studio C for most of her life, first as a dancer and competitor and now as a senior instructor. She began training at Studio C at the age of eight and competed with the Studio C Competitive Team for 10 years, earning numerous Overall awards and travelling throughout Canada and the United States to train and compete. As a dancer, Cathryn completed the Advanced Jazz and Advanced Tap examinations with the Canadian Dance Teachers’ Association (CDTA).
With more than 20 years of teaching experience, Cathryn plays a significant role in the training and development of both Studio C's Recreational and Competitive dancers. She teaches dancers across a wide range of ages, levels, and disciplines and is an experienced teacher and choreographer who brings a strong understanding of both technical development and performance to her classes.
Cathryn is currently a CDTA Pre-Associate member and is continuing her professional teacher training toward Associate qualifications in both Jazz and Tap. She is also a qualified AcroDance teacher certified through the Acro Dance Teachers Association (ADTA) and leads Studio C's Acro program, overseeing the training and progression of Acro dancers from our youngest students through our most advanced levels. Cathryn continues to train with both organizations, keeping her teaching practices current and continuing to expand her knowledge as a dance educator.
Beyond the classroom, Cathryn brings a number of additional skills to Studio C. Her previous experience with Brio Dancewear in Ottawa has made her an invaluable resource for dancewear and professional shoe fitting. As the owner of Cat Matthews Photography, she also serves as Studio C's in-house photographer and contributes to our website and social media.
