Dance Classes
Dance Styles
As the years go by, dance styles vary and change. For this reason, Studio "C" Instructors attend workships and conventions that are designed to keep us on the "cutting edge" of dance. Classes are offered in Jazz, Tap, Ballet, Lyrical and Celtic Dance. For our youngest students, combination classes are recommended. These classes provide instruction in the basics of jazz and tap as well as some ballet and muscle stretching. Older dancers will register for one type of dance per class.
Classes
Classes are 45 minutes in length, oncer per week and are offered on Saturday morning or evenings during the week. Children must be at least 3 years of age to register. Placement in class is based on age, previous dance experience, and to a certain extent, the maturity of the student. Class sizes are generally between 6 and 10 students, allowing instructors to provide a certain amount of individual attention for each student.
Studio Dress Requirements
For health and safety reasons, all students are required to wear appropriate clothing and dance shoes. All dancers must have their hair tied back from their faces. The preferred dress is tights and a leotard, bike shorts or dance pants and close fitting tops. Dancers are not permitted to wear jeans, sweat pants and shirts, or large sloppy t-shirts during class.
In order to have our annual recital and other performances uniform, all dancers are required to wear the following footwear in the following colours.
Jazz: Black gym pumps or black jazz slip on shoes
Tap: Flat heeled black tap shoes for our youngest dancers. Tan tap shoes for our intermediate and senior dancers.
Ballet: White or pink gym pumps or pink canvas ballet slippers
Competitive Team: All members must purchase tan tap shoes, black slip on oxfords, and for our lyrical dancers tan foot undies.
